We will be working with colleagues from Cornwall Wildlife Trust to survey for this beautiful little butterfly, now very scarce in Cornwall and, as far as we know, exists in this area only. The day will be jointly led by our Grizzled Skipper Species Champion Cerin Poland. Don't worry if you haven't ever seen this butterfly before, training will be given on the day.

An all day community event

Our second Butterfly Festival in St Breward celebrating local lepidoptera! Again in partnership with 'Yurtworks' we will be running guided walks for adults and children to learn more about local butterflies and moths. There will be bric-a-brac and a giant tombola. With over 100 attendees last year, we would appreciate help, even if you can only spare an hour,

Community Moth Event

One for All Community Garden, The Community Hub, 111 Kinsman Estate, Bodmin PL31 1PQ

Working with the University of Exeter and the All the Moor Butterflies project to provide a Community moth event in half term week. Our colleagues at the 'One for All Community Garden' will enable us to give an insight into the mini-beasts found in Bodmin! We aim to attract families with children, as it will be fun, awe-inspiring and educational. Suitable for all, with plenty of knowledgeable enthusiasts to help develop a fascination with moths and other insects. There will be free refreshments, a free bug pot for each child and a photo competition (with prizes!) open to all. Please let us know if you can spare time to help.

This day is designed for CBC volunteers and also volunteers from our partner organisations, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, National Trust and Natural England. You will learn the importance of Timed Counts as a method of working with rare habitat specialist butterflies whose distributions change over time across large sites. There will be a chance to practice in the field and at the end of the day, you will have the skills to carry out a Timed Count yourself.

We will be searching for Marsh Fritillary adult butterflies at some beautiful spots on Bodmin Moor where caterpillars have been spotted this spring. No experience necessary, beginners very welcome as our trained volunteers will be pleased to support you.

We are going to be look carefully again for the ever elusive Narrow-bordered Bee Hawk-moth in it's caterpillar stage. This species was last seen on Bodmin Moor in 2008. We have searched for the last two years to no avail, but we feel sure it still lives somewhere on the moor. No experience necessary, beginners very welcome as our trained volunteers will be pleased to support you.

CBC and National Meadows Open Day

Our annual open day for the general public with all funds we raise going to support CBC and Plantlife's National Meadows Day. People can come and freely explore our Chairman's beautiful wildlife haven with it's wonderful walks and lakes. You will get Free Entry (including food) if you can help out on this important day, welcoming visitors, serving food, offering membership, running a raffle & stalls etc.
